Solar Power
There are currently two government schemes in place for Western Australians purchasing a solar power system:
Solar myWorld offer Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) as a point of sales discount for solar power installations. RECs are calculated at their current value and deducted off the quotation, reducing a client’s out of pocket expense. Upon installation of their solar system, clients will be required to sign a RECs form acknowledging that Solar myWorld is to claim the RECs on their behalf. The larger the renewable energy system is, the more certificates it will hold. Tradeable like shares, the value of RECs varies day by day.
Commencing as of 1st August 2010, residential grid connect solar power systems may now be eligible for WA’s Feed In Tariff. Any excess power produced by your system will feed back into the grid, to be credited to your account at 47c* per unit! (*for clients registered prior to 30th June 2011 and installed before 30th September). This incentive is ideal for working families as solar power production peaks midday during which time power consumption would be at its lowest.
Solar Hot Water
If you’re considering switching your old electric storage water heater soon, consider this: if you switch to a solar water heater, you will qualify for some of the highest government rebates available! In addition to the REC’s discount (see above) consumers looking to replace their existing electric water heater may be eligible for the electric storage rebate of $1,000.
Thinking of adding a gas booster? The Government of Western Australia is now offering rebates between $500 - $700 for gas boosted solar hot water installations. This Solar Water Heater subsidy scheme is available to all gas boosted solar systems installed on private residential properties within WA.
